Although we have repeatedly stressed that we should not sleep with contact lenses, but longterm use, there will always be time when we have no time to take them off. It’s a very dangerous idea to dismiss beacuse of the serious consequences of occasional slacking. It is necessary to know that once something happens, it is useless to regret it again. Never bet with your eyes.
Sleeping with contact lenses is a serious problem.About 80% of the oxygen that keeps your cornea breathing comes from the atmosphere. With contact lenses, this can be somewhat of an obstacle, but it can still promote oxygen exchange by blinking. However, when the eyes are closed after falling asleep, the eyes are closed and the exchange of oxygen is completely cut off, and the cornea will have a slight edema. If you still wearing contact lenses, the oxygen supply of the cornea is only 2% to 4%, which is equivalent to a very serious lack of oxygen.
If you fall asleep wearing contact lenses, you will wake up feeling unusually dry and sore eyes, which are manifestations of excessive oxygen deprivation. At the same time, under closed conditions, bacteria on the lens will multiply in large numbers, and the probability of infection will increase exponentially. If you press your eyes, it will increase the friction between the lens and cornea.
So if accidentally wear contact lens to sleep how should do? First, don't remove the lens immediately when you wake up, because the eyes may be very dry or secrete too much mucus. Then, blink or add a little water, waiting for the tears to return to normal secretion. Finally, take out the lenses according to the normal steps, and carry out daily scrubbing and maintenance. For the rest of the time, don't wear contact lenses anymore. Give your eyes enough time to rest and observe the condition of your eyes.
